If you're a novice angler and don't feel like tackling the big lake just yet, you might just try your luck in some of Benedict's 'secret' spots. But don't be surprised if you tie into a big one.. In recent years, some of Minnesota's biggest lunker walleyes have been hooked in Benedict Lake. But if you think the 'Big One' might be lurking in the wide open water, or you seek the thrill and mystique of a big lake, then you can boat into Leech and fish Squaw Point, the Narrows, Goose Island, or simply park at the city dock and spend some time dining or shopping in the town of Walker. Walker offers many excellent restaurants, bars and entertainment, unique-one of kind stores, coffee and ice cream shops bait and water rental spots. Walker is a destination that you will want to visit again.

Our gorgeous, private Leech Lake home is located just minutes from Walker but offer an awesome up north experience. We purchased this home as our dream home and love it very much, with a very busy active family we just don’t use it enough in the summer so we have made the difficult decision to offer it to other families to enjoy as much as we do!!! We love the home because it is the perfect location to be on Leech Lake. Our home is on Kabekona Bay which is basically a lake in itself, we like being on K Bay because it’s great fishing, clean clear water, swimming, tubing, waterskiing, pontooning and many other great reasons. Another thing we love about our location, we have the paved Paul Bunyan State Trail which offers over 120 miles of biking adventure... Our home is a 4 bedroom 3 bath with sleeping loft perfect for groups of up to 10 but have had group of 12. Our home offers views of the lake from almost every window. Our home has a very nice main floor living room with gorgeous custom hard wood floors and stone fireplace all with a wall of windows facing the lake. There is also a family room in the lower level that’s perfect to hang out or to watch our large TV. We have a very nice lakeside deck to enjoy the serenity or to have a glass of wine and enjoy the sights and sounds of the water and our piece of heaven. We are located just minutes from downtown Walker that offer great shopping and dining opportunities. I am sure that you and your family will enjoy our home as much as we do and we ask that you treat it as if it is your dream home as it is ours..I am happy to answer any questions that you have.

On this lot it sat closer to the highway of 371 North sitting further away from the now existing bike trail which was the train tracks of the railroad. When my husband and I purchased the property in the spring of 2017 we relocated the home again, closer to the trail and away from the highway. The old foundation was in poor shape as the walls in the basement were braced for support. We then built a new taller basement foundation for the home to sit on. Beautiful historic home within Walker city limits, right on Walker Bay of Leech Lake. Blocks to Heartland and Paul Bunyan Trails, as well as the public lake access beach park and all of Walker's shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Private access to sandy lake bottom with crystal clear water that is great for swimming off the dock. Breathtaking views of the lake from almost every room of the home! Large rooms and open spaces throughout this historic charmer with original hardwood floors and fireplace facade. The main floor includes the kitchen, half bath, dining room, large living room (one pull-out bed), and den (one pull-out bed). Head upstairs for two lake-facing bedrooms, two additional bunk rooms, and the main 3/4 bath. There are multiple outdoor spaces to relax around the home, with a grilling deck, covered porch, large deck above the lake access, and a beautiful dock complete with a two-person bench, swim ladder, and bumper poles. Bring your own boat or rent one just down the street - either way, the dock is available and there's still plenty of room to safely swim when a boat is tied up! A few notes to be aware of: *The home has a mini-split air conditioner in the kitchen on the main floor, but does not have central air conditioning. The upstairs can get a bit warm on very hot summer days; however, 3 of the bedrooms have ceiling fans and 3 additional room fans are provided. We find that open windows and lake breezes make for a comfortable night's sleep. *There are 2 pull-out couches on the main floor; however, all private bathrooms and the shower are on the second level and require using the stairs. There is no shower or bathtub on the main level. *The home sits at elevation above the lake, which provides breath-taking views; however, this means there are multiple stairs down to our dock at lake-level. There are 2 landings along the way to break up your trek, and the sandy lake bottom and dock at the bottom are worth it - but something to keep in mind. *The main floor TV is a smart TV; however, the upstairs TV is not. Both TVs are connected to DVD players and there is a wide assortment of DVDs (including children's movies) available; however, we do not provide cable or satellite television.

Cabin (800 sq. ft.) in Nevis, MN
8 miles from Kabekona Lake
The State of Minnesota has decided to categorize any property rented for more than 14 days through sites such as VRBO as commercial property. The sales tax we collected was not enough to satisfy the greed by the State Legislators so our property tax changed from approximately $4,000 to over $9,000 per year. Unfortunately, this scenario is playing out throughout the State. Our choices are to more than double the rent or just not share our piece of paradise. We have decided to leave the cabin listed but not rent. I would suggest contacting "house.leg.state.mn.us/members/" to express your disapproval and tell them about the economic impact you make to the area. I hear South Dakota is also very nice. Worried about social distancing? Come enjoy a quiet relaxing vacation in our REMOTE wooded cabin located roughly 30 minutes from Itasca State Park (headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River). Nearby are the restaurants of Dorset (15 miles) and the bigger towns of Park Rapids (25 miles) and Bemidji (40 miles). If you are here during "Taste of Dorset" I highly recommend attending! I saw the world’s youngest mayor (four year old Bobby) during a previous visit, he got too old so the town replaced him with his 3 year old brother! We start renting in May and end in October, the water pipes are not insulated and the dock has to come out before ice forms. New for 2013; we updated the kitchen, fireplace and TV. In 2015 new carpet went in along with a new couch after the previous one fell apart as I was moving it for the carpet. Opps, sorry Mom. 2016 saw a new roof on the cabin along with a new grill and we now have an internet connection. Bring your boat; the fishing on Big Mantrap Lake is typically phenomenal! And, lots of fishermen come to our bay as their favorite spot. Big Mantrap is a deep water lake known for its Muskie fishing but you can also enjoy catching largemouth bass, walleye, crappies, sunfish and northern pike. You can catch everything off the dock (I've seen it done!) but heading out on the water is sooo fun. We have kid skis and plenty of life jackets and other toys in the garage. There are companies nearby that rent boats and deliver them to the public landing if you don't want to haul yours from home. Sleeping arrangements are as follows: Master bedroom with a queen bed, a loft with a queen bed, two day beds (one on the enclosed porch the other in the den) and one sleeper sofa in the den. So, technically, the cabin sleeps 8 but I will say the place is not real big and you will have to be family or real close friends that don’t mind sleeping near each other. I just slept in the queen bed in the master bedroom for the first time. My Grandparents and then Mother always slept in the bedroom previously but on our last visit nobody wanted to listen to my snoring! It wasn't bad, the new mattress is comfortable but my favorite bed is still the loft. Even after knee surgery and temporarily walking with a cane I managed to get up the vertical ladder to the loft. My kids and wife thought I was nuts. But, I have to sleep in my bed at least once per trip! More important than sleeping arrangements, there are TWO restrooms inside the cabin and one outhouse. The main bathroom has a tub/shower and the other is a half bath with a clothes washer and dryer. SMOKING POLICY: Please no smoking inside the cabin. While I support your right to smoke I cannot condone smoking inside the cabin because the smell is bothersome to non-smokers. Please go outside to enjoy your tobacco products. If our caretaker reports the smell inside the cabin we may be forced to impose an additional cleaning fee. NOTE: I added directions to the public landing near the Boy Scout campgrounds in the map view and I added two links to maps on the Minnesota DNR website. Read them carefully it is easy to get confused. Also, we continue to have email issues where messages are going directly to 'junk'. If you don't get a return email within a week, please call the contact number. Sincerely, Steve Keywords: house, secluded, rustic, wooded, Dorset, remote, Park Rapids, Nevis

Cabin (800 sq. ft.) in Park Rapids, MN
8 miles from Kabekona Lake
Nicknamed "the Enchanted Cabin" by its owners, this cabin was built in 2008 and has all of the amenities of a small home. Large windows face the lake and showcase the shoreline which measures almost 1,100 feet. Privacy is a main attraction with the nearest cabin being 125 yards away and not visible because of the forest. The main floor features a great room and kitchen facing the lake; a bedroom, bath and small office are on the other side of the main floor. An upstairs loft serves as a second bedroom, and a full basement/garage is on the lower level. A 40 foot dock and boat lift form the waterfront. Renters are encouraged to bring their own boats. Big Mantrap Lake, which is about 1700 acres, is known as a muskie lake, but anglers also catch bass, northern pike, and crappies. The lake boasts an excellent public boat launch, which is on the other side of the lake - about a 15 minute boat ride from the cabin. Boats can be rented from a few of the resorts on Big Mantrap. Please contact owner for information on those resorts. In addition to being a haven for fishermen, Big Mantrap is also home to considerable wildlife: deer, otters, beavers, minks, eagles, ospreys, and, especially, loons. For the past several summers, three pairs of loons have made Hoist Bay (the bay on which the cabin in located) their annual summer home. Watching them and their chicks is great fun. The owner's parents purchased the property in 1959. Located on the tip of a three-quarter mile peninsula that juts out into Big Mantrap Lake (between Steamboat and Hoist Bays), the original site featured one cabin. A second cabin was built in 1965 as a guest cabin, and in 2008, the owners built the Enchanted Cabin to serve as their summer home during their retirement. Health issues have interrupted that plan, so the Enchanted Cabin is now being offered to those who also love the north woods and its quiet surroundings.

The large main bedroom contains a full bed and twin bunks and the second bedroom a full bed. The living area has a comfortable futon that can sleep 2, so the cabin sleeps up to 8 people. The main bedroom has a sliding glass patio door with access to an extra large deck where you can relax under the shade of pine trees and enjoy a wonderful view of the resort and West Crooked Lake. The cabin has a large deck, picnic table, charcoal grill, lawn chairs, TV/DVD, A/C, and comes with a fully equipped kitchen that includes a microwave, stove, oven, coffee maker, and all the accompanying dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. We provide bed linens and towels. We supply toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, and hand soap. This is a non-smoking cabin. One dock slip is included with the cabin for the fishermen in the group. We have a pontoon and fishing boats to rent if you don't have your own but want to fish or tour beautiful West Crooked Lake. West Crooked Lake Resort, nestled along 400 feet of lakeshore, is a family-friendly resort located in the Paul Bunyan State Forest, surrounded by towering pines situated on the northeast shore of West Crooked Lake. Located in a quiet wooded area, the cabins sit on spacious grounds overlooking a secluded, beautiful lake. While our location is quiet and serene, we are only 15 miles NE of Park Rapids, MN and 15 miles SW of Walker, MN, where opportunities for shopping, dining, and recreation are plentiful. We provide activities on the resort for everyone. West Crooked Lake Resort offers relaxation and enjoyment for the entire family. You can enjoy sun bathing on the sandy beach, swimming in the clear water, playing on the Rave Water Park, or reading a book in the shade. Listen to the loons calling, watch eagles soar overhead, glide through the clear waters in a canoe or paddleboat, or just bring a book, relax, and catch some rays on the sandy beach. For the fishermen, West Crooked Lake hosts a large variety of fish including Walleye, Northern, Bass, Perch, Crappie and Sunfish. Many area attractions are just minutes from the resort. Biking/walking trails, golf courses, casinos, a fun park, a local winery (tours available), horseback riding, shopping and restaurants, and the Headwaters of the Mississippi in Itasca State Park are just a few of the attractions you will find.
